Sumaiya ChowdhuryPresident

Sumaiya Chowdhury

Hi! My name is Sumaiya Chowdhury, and I鈥檓 a PhD candidate in the Biological Sciences department at 蜜桃影像. My research primarily focuses on understanding how temperature stress affects the fertility of organisms. Apart from working in the lab, I鈥檝e served as a mentor, guiding undergraduates in their academic pursuits and coordinating outreach events that provide hands-on science activities to local schools. These experiences have deepened my commitment to promoting science and creating spaces that uplift underrepresented voices. As a GSO President, I鈥檓 excited to bring the same energy, collaborative mindset, and dedication to enhancing the graduate student experience at 蜜桃影像. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and traveling. A fun fact about me is that I have traveled to 17 countries and can speak four languages.

Oluwaferanmi DahunsiCommunications Officer

Oluwaferanmi Dahunsi

Hello, I'm Oluwaferanmi Dahunsi, the Communications Officer for the Graduate Student Organization. As a first-year international student from Nigeria in 蜜桃影像's Communications Master's program, I bring a unique perspective and skillset to our community.

With a background in leadership, forged through four years of work experience and extensive volunteering, I'm dedicated to effectively communicating with our members and fostering meaningful connections within our organization.

My academic interests lie at the intersection of media and human behavior, particularly in the context of emerging media. This passion for understanding complex human interactions drives my approach to communication and community-building.

As a leader, I believe that true leadership is about serving others, not seeking followers. I'm committed to utilizing my skills to support our members and promote a sense of community within our organization.

On a personal note, I'm a Christian who enjoys playing soccer and video games in my free time.

Charise EdwardsLogistics Officer

Cherise Edwards

I started my journey of service many years ago, helping the United States government protect soldiers in the field.  This opportunity was acquired with an undergraduate degree in chemistry and a commitment to help as many people as possible. I left my career in R&D after I got married. I now have three wonderful children and have since moved my family multiple times. As my children grew, I found myself yearning for academic & intellectual stimulation. I enrolled in the BSN program at UWM in 2019, after my family and I moved to the Milwaukee area. In my senior year I participated in the Maternal and Child Health pipeline program, which nurtured my love and passion for women鈥檚 health.

Currently, I am a research assistant for 蜜桃影像鈥檚 College of Nursing and in my 2nd year of the PhD program in Nursing program. I love to play tennis and laugh. In my 鈥渇ree time鈥, I: play video games, sew, put together jigsaw puzzles, diamond art, read novels (suspense thrillers, lately). I have 3 human children & 2 fur babies. I really dislike chocolate. I love candy corn! I鈥檓 originally from New Orleans and I grew up in Atlanta. I love to talk/chat and hugs!
