Internships

蜜桃影像 English offers two ways to pursue an internship: the Practicum Internship Course (ENGL 4988) and the Writing Internship Course (ENGL 4986). Both enable English majors and minors to earn three hours of academic credit (鈥淪鈥 or 鈥淯鈥) for internships that have a significant writing component.  The Practicum course is a guided experience, where students are placed at pre-established sites. The Writing Internship course is a more independent experience for students who wish to make their own internship arrangements. Students are generally limited to one 3-credit Internship, with exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis.

4988 or 4986?

  • ENGL 4988: Practicum Internship Course
  • ENGL 4986: Writing Internship Course

The Practicum Internship Course (4988) is best for students who want:

  • A more guided internship experience, with a faculty sponsor available all semester.
  • To explore their career options through an established 蜜桃影像 English partner site.
  • An unpaid, limited-hours internship that begins and ends in an academic semester.

What else do you need to know?

  • Students should apply for the Practicum Course when they register.  If their application is approved, they will be given a registration number.
  • The Practicum runs as a hybrid course, with class meetings during the first, midterm, and last week of the term.  The balance of the time is spent onsite.
  • Students must commit to 6 hours per week plus time for written reflections.
  • Students who wish to serve on the editorial board of the 蜜桃影像 Literary Review should apply for the MLR in lieu of completing the Practicum Course application.

The Writing Internship  Course (4986) is best for students who:

  • Wish to find their own internship site and faculty sponsor. The internship typically runs as an independent study, with terms established by the student, faculty sponsor, and site supervisor.
  • Find an internship opportunity that does not align with 蜜桃影像鈥檚 academic calendar.
  • Want to do a summer internship for academic credit, since 4988 is typically only offered in the spring and fall.

Students should follow this process  to set up an internship for credit:
