| ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ School of Dentistry and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services offer the following course on TRAIN Wisconsin: Comprehensive Approach to Dental Pain Management in the Evolving Substance Use Disorder EpidemicDental professionals need to manage perioperative pain on a daily basis as well as managing patients with complex medical problems, including those suffering from Substance Use Disorders (SUD). This is accomplished by understanding pre-emptive analgesic strategies, intelligent use of local anesthetic and/or anesthetic combinations, anti-inflammatory analgesics, careful use of opioids as well as proper communications with patients. This webinar will review pharmacologically sound pain control strategies and review the origins of dental pain for all dental professionals based on the science and available literature. It will focus on alternatives to narcotic pain medications and understanding the problem associated with prescription opioid misuse. Additional training is also provided on risk factors for substance use disorder, trauma and trauma-informed care and the catastrophic effects of stigmatizing language and behavior. The webinar will also improve the participants use and understanding of the WI state Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). This course will fulfill the 2 CE credits of opioid instruction required for licensure in Wisconsin. This continuing education activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards of the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) through joint efforts between ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ School of Dentistry and the State of Wisconsin. to register and learn more about this course.
