Cathal Doherty SJ is a Jesuit priest and theologian. A linguistics professor before entering the Society of Jesus, he completed doctoral degrees in theoretical linguistics (University of California, Santa Cruz, 1993) and, as a Jesuit, in Catholic theology (Boston College, 2015), where he worked under Oliva Blanchette on Maurice Blondel’s philosophy of religion. Prior to joining the faculty at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, he taught at University of San Francisco, Boston College and University College Dublin, Ireland. His main research interests lie in dogmatic theology, especially in the nature-grace relationship and sacraments, in addition to linguistics and the philosophy of religion. He is the author of Maurice Blondel on the Supernatural in Human Action: Sacrament and Superstition, Brill (2017) and his most recent articles focus on sacramental causality and Maurice Blondel’s philosophy of human action.
