Clinical Associate Professor

Speech Pathology and Audiology

Director of the Bilingual English-Spanish (BIES) Specialization

Stacy Ko received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ in 1992, with minors in Spanish and Psychology. An early love for Spanish led to study in Spain and the completion of a bilingual certificate as part of her graduate studies. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Communicative Disorders at San Diego State University in 1994.

Stacy’s work as a practicing bilingual Spanish-English SLP has included extensive bilingual diagnostic experience in urban and rural Wisconsin school districts. She has provided therapy services for preschool, elementary and middle school children for more than 20 years in a variety of settings. She joined the faculty full-time in 2015 following almost decade of work as an adjunct instructor/part-time clinical supervisor in the department.

As the director of the Bilingual English-Spanish (BIES) Specialization, Stacy works closely with each BIES graduate student to guide him/her through bilingual clinical and diagnostic experiences. She is passionate about making connections with clients and families. She believes in educating graduate students to be knowledgeable about second language acquisition, Spanish speech and language development, and ways to distinguish disorder versus difference in culturally and linguistically diverse populations to ultimately improve the provision of services to English Language Learners in the community.
