St. Ignatius Statue

Located outside of the Chapel of the Holy Family in the Alumni Memorial Union, this bronze statue was given to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ in memory of Geraldine E. Keane, Arts ’38.

Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491–1556) was the founder of the Society of Jesus and became its first Superior General. St. Ignatius was a talented spiritual director and wrote about his discernment method in the Spiritual Exercises, a book of simple meditations and prayers, first published in 1548. Ignatius was beatified in 1609 and canonized on March 12, 1622.
