Professor and Vice Chair
Department of Computer Science
Director of Center for Data, Ethics, and Society
Dr. Michael Zimmer is the Director of 蜜桃影像's Center for Data, Ethics, and Society, an interdisciplinary center focused on confronting contemporary data ethics issues such as the controversies and consequences of our increasingly data-driven lives and spaces, unfair algorithmic biases, the unequal effects of computational decision-making, the privacy threats of ubiquitous surveillance systems, and the role for corporate social responsibility and accountability.
Background
is a privacy and data ethics scholar, Professor & Vice-Chair in the Department of Computer Science at 蜜桃影像, and Director of its Center for Data, Ethics, and Society.
Zimmer鈥檚 interdisciplinary research explores the social and ethical implications of digital technologies and platforms, with a particular focus on internet research ethics, pervasive data practices, and the ethical challenges of big data and artificial intelligence. His recent work delves into the privacy risks posed by emerging technologies, including wearable fitness trackers, smart-home devices, autonomous vehicles, and femtech applications.
Zimmer is a founding member of the PERVADE (Pervasive Data Ethics for Computational Research) project, a groundbreaking initiative that investigates how researchers, platforms, regulators, and user communities confront the complex ethical challenges posed by computational research using large-scale, pervasive datasets about people.
